Liberty Jamboree

Andrew and Jo visited Liberty Jamboree in Lichfield on 7th May 2026 and spoke to 20 young adults with learning disabilities and autism. When they arrived, some of the members were sitting at the kitchen island, trying healthy snacks, such as cucumber, strawberries, peppers

Andrew and Jo asked members what they do for physical activities to keep them healthy. A couple of them mentioned how they love to walk their dogs and showed photos. Two young ladies spoke with Jo, and they spoke about getting their nails done. One said “get my nails done, with mum, feel better”. Another mentioned how she likes to go into town with her family and friends to get her hair and nails done. Someone else said how she likes to go watch live music. She is due to go watch Bruno Mars and asked Jo if she was going back, and if so, she would tell her all about it.

Andrew spent a long time talking to a few of the young men about playing rugby, going to kickboxing (“I go kickboxing. I like doing it and I feel like it’s good for my mental health as well. Like an outlet, getting out your aggression. Or if I’ve had a bad day it feels good to get that out”), gaming and watching horror films. It’s hard to tell who was enjoying it more – him or them.
