What is Co Production?

Asist has been providing advocacy in our local communities for more than 30 years. Advocacy is about enabling people to speak up for their rights, choices and inclusion.

The Asist Co-Production project is a group advocacy initiative with Staffordshire County Council to help people speak up about what is important to them. We work to ensure disabled and neurodivergent people have a say in what the county council does. We work with a wide range of people who have learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical disabilities and sensory needs.

Asist facilitates disabled and neurodivergent people to share their opinions by hosting group meetings online or in person as well as visiting service providers and voluntary and charity groups to enable an wide variety of views to be heard.

Speaking up together gives communities a stronger voice.

In Co-Production we want to work with people to:

· link up people’s voices to make them louder

· share our learning and skills

· represent communities in decisions that matter to them

· shine a light on inequalities in our communities

· enable individuals to contribute to the monitoring of services and the review of  Staffordshire County Councils Disability and Neuordiversity strategy called "Living my Best Life".

Here’s a few community quotes on co-production:

“Advocacy can support us to speak up with confidence for ourselves and for our communities. People in communities can advocate for each other to make sure everyone has an equal voice.”

“People can be brought together by situations or events to share what we have and strengthen what we do.”

"Speak up about something and see if you can help us to get things done.”
